How to Renew a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Wyoming

Renewing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Wyoming is a relatively simple process compared to applying for a new CDL. Commercial Driver Licenses are valid for four years and may be renewed by mail or in person.

A renewal notice is automatically sent to your current address within 120 days of CDL expiration (90 days if you are under the age of 21). If your CDL has been lost or stolen, you will need to apply for a replacement CDL, rather than a renewal.

TO RENEW IN PERSON

  1. You may renew your CDL in person, at your local DOT driver services office.
  2. Bring the following items with you to the local DOT driver services office, when renewing your commercial driver's license:
  3. Your current Wyoming commercial driver's license.
  4. Completed CDL renewal form.
  5. Your latest DOT medical examination document.
  6. You must also bring the correct CDL renewal fee. Fees vary, depending on your age and the endorsements on your CDL. Check with your local DOT driver services office on the exact fee before arriving for the renewal.
Note: The medical examination form should also be available with your physician.

TO RENEW BY MAIL

  1. Complete the CDL renewal form.
  2. Send this with your latest DOT medical examination document and the CDL renewal fee to:
    Wyoming Department of Transportation
    Driver Services
    5300 Bishop Blvd.
    Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340
Note: CDLs with the hazardous materials endorsement have to be renewed in person and cannot be processed by mail.
  3. The medical examination form should also be available with your physician.
  4. CDLs can be renewed by mail once in every eight years.

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL ENDORSEMENT (HAZMAT)

If your CDL includes a Hazardous Material Endorsement that you wish to retain, you must undergo a fingerprint and background check by the Transportation Security Administration.
  1. You must pay a non-refundable fee of $94.00 to initiate the process. Call the Integrated Biometrics Technologies (IBT) Help Desk at 1-877-429-7746, or visit their website at www.hazprints.com.
  2. Contact one of the locations listed below to schedule a fingerprinting appointment. Two forms of identification (one, primary and the other, secondary) are required for fingerprinting. Check the approved TSA list.
