How to Handle a Change of Address in West Virginia
How to Handle a Change of Address in West Virginia
If you are a West Virginia resident and have changed addresses or plan to do so in the near future, you must have the address information updated on your license, within 20 days of moving to the new address. If you do not, you could face severe penalties under state law. You could also miss your date of renewal of your license. It is not enough to change your address with the US Post Office.
REPORTING A CHANGE OF ADDRESS TO THE DRIVER LICENSE DIVISION
You must notify the West Virginia Department of Transportation DMV in writing of a change in address within 20 days of moving to a new residence, and to obtain a replacement driver license.
Reporting a change of address to your DMV regional office is simple, and can be done in person.
Reporting an address change in person:
- Locate the DMV regional license office nearest you.
- Bring your current license, along with first-time applicant to prove your citizenship or legal presence. These could include your original birth certificate, unexpired certificate of US citizenship, unexpired certificate of naturalization etc.
- Download and complete a [http://www.dmv.com/redirect?url=http://www.transportation.wv.gov/dmv/Forms/DMVForms/Driver's%20License%20Application%20(DMV-ds23p).pdf application form]
- Pay the replacement fee of $5.
Additional information
- If you are a non-US citizen residing in West Virginia, and wish to have your address updated on your license, you must apply in person at a driver license office. Please remember to bring appropriate proper identification.
