The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has its main office in Pawtucket and branch offices throughout the state. Click here to find the DMV office location nearest you.

APPOINTMENTS AND SCHEDULING

You can visit DMV locations to complete your vision, knowledge and road tests. The branches that offer these services do not need prior appointments. Road test appointments for commercial licenses have to be booked with the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), by calling (401) 825-1146 and tests also have to be taken through the CCRI.

TYPES OF LOCATIONS

  • DMV Offices handle transactions concerning titles, registration, licenses, non-driver IDs, permits and more. Do check if the transaction you require is handled at the branch office you are hoping to go to. You can also schedule your vision, knowledge and road tests here, although road tests are performed only at certain branch offices. At the main office at Pawtucket, all transactions are handled. DMV Offices are generally open from 8:30 am-3:30 pm, except for holidays observed by the DMV, but timings may vary for different offices. Please verify the hours and services offered at your preferred office before visiting in person.
  • The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) handles the road tests needed for commercial licenses. Appointments for these tests need to be scheduled in advance. Commercial licenses are also handled through the main office in Pawtucket.

All Emission Inspection Stations do not have facilities to test diesel vehicles. Please verify the hours and services offered at your preferred station before visiting in person.
