[edit] TRAFFIC SCHOOLS
In the state of Nevada, people usually enroll in traffic schools or traffic safety courses for the following reasons:
- To plea bargain with a court of law after a traffic violation.
- To reduce points on their driving records.
- To receive insurance discounts.
Traffic safety courses are designed to help you to learn defensive driving techniques that will make you a safer driver. There are many professional driving schools in Nevada, but they may not fulfill requirements for court ordered plea bargains or point reduction. Click here for a list of DMV approved traffic safety courses some of which are even online.
Traffic safety schools do not fulfill the requirements for DUI School. Click here for a list of DMV approved schools for those convicted of DUI.
[edit] BENEFITS
Any driver can enroll in a traffic safety school at any time to receive the following benefits:
- Insurance Benefits - some insurance companies may offer premium discounts. Please check with your insurance representative to see if you qualify for this discount.
- Reduce points on driving record - if you have 3 to 11 points on your driving record, you can reduce 3 points by voluntarily completing a traffic safety course. (Remember once you accumulate 12 points in a 12 month period your license will be automatically suspended for six months). You will not receive any point reduction if you are doing the course as part of a court order.
Note: You may attend traffic school only once in a year to remove points from your record.
[edit] WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?
Either the court or the DMV (when notified by the courts) may order you to successfully complete a driver improvement program when you have been convicted of a moving or traffic violation. It is under the court's discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these clinics.
[edit] FEES
Contact the course providers for information on costs, schedules and locations.
