[edit] TRAFFIC SCHOOLS
In the state of Massachusetts, people enroll in traffic schools or driver improvement programs mainly for two reasons:
- After a traffic violation when the court orders the driver to take a course at a traffic/driving school to improve their safe-driving skills.
- To receive insurance discounts.
[edit] BENEFITS
Some insurance companies may offer premium discounts to drivers completing safe driving courses. Please check with your insurance representative to see if you qualify for this discount. You may not be eligible for insurance premium discounts if the course has been court ordered.[edit] WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?
Either the court or the RMV (when notified by the courts) may order you to successfully complete a driver improvement program when you have been convicted of a moving or traffic violation. It is under the court's discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these courses.[edit] SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS FOR PROBLEM DRIVERS
Massachusetts has some specialized programs for problem drivers and teen drivers (ages 16 to 24) convicted of traffic violations. These are attitudinal and retraining courses meant to make people more responsible drivers. Check out the National Security Council's website for more information on these courses.[edit] ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
