How to Handle a Change of Address in Louisiana

If you are a Louisiana resident and have changed addresses or plan to do so in the near future, you must have the address information updated on your license and vehicle registration.

REPORTING A CHANGE OF ADDRESS TO THE DRIVER LICENSE DIVISION

You must notify the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV), Driver License Division of a change in address within 10 days of moving to a new residence, and to obtain a replacement driver license. Reporting a change of address to your local OMV is simple, and needs to be done in person.

Reporting an address change in person:

  1. Locate the local OMV office nearest you.
  2. Carry your current license and proof of insurance if you own a vehicle. Minors, 17 or under, must have a parent or legal guardian with picture ID along with them. When the minor is in joint custody, the domiciliary parent is allowed to sign.
  3. There is no fee for this service.

ADDRESS CHANGE ON YOUR VEHICLE REGISTRATION

The change of address must be reflected on the registration of your vehicle. This can be done either in person or by mailing a written request. There is no fee for this service.

Getting the address changed on the registration in person:

  1. Locate the local OMV office nearest you.
  2. Carry your certificate of registration and proof of insurance if you own a vehicle.
