Traffic/Driving Schools in Georgia

[edit] TRAFFIC SCHOOLS

In the state of Georgia, traffic schools are often referred to as ‘Driver Training Courses' that are of different types. There are different reasons why people enroll in the Driver Training Courses:

  • After a traffic violation where demerit points were awarded, the court may order the driver to take a course at a traffic/driving school to improve their safe-driving skills.
  • To receive insurance discounts.
  • To reinstate a suspended license and 16 year olds must undergo a 40- hour course to get a Class D license under the Joshua's law. All under-18 year olds must undergo the 4- hour ADAP program to get a Class D license.
  • Guardians or parents of dependant minors who undergo the course by a DDS licensed private provider receive tax credit of up to $150. Please check with authorities for details.
  • Undergoing the experienced Motorcycle course may give you a 90-day License waiver from the written test for and road test for the DDS motorcycle license.

This program is designed to help you to learn defensive driving techniques that will make you a safer driver. The Driver training courses are conducted at various locations and online courses offered in Georgia. If the course has been court-ordered, please ensure that the court will accept a certificate of completion from an online or regular course, before enrolling in a computer based course.

[edit] BENEFITS

Any driver can enroll in a Driver Training Course at any time to receive the following benefits:

  • Insurance Benefits - some insurance companies may offer premium discounts. Online courses may not qualify for discounts on insurance. Please check with your insurance representative to see if you qualify for this discount. Teenagers must complete the 30 and 6 course to get any discounts on premium.
  • Reduce Driving Points

Note: If you take a Driver Training Course for the insurance benefits you may not qualify for the driving points reduction.

[edit] WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?

Either the court or the DDS (when notified by the courts) may order you to successfully complete a driver improvement program when you have been convicted of a moving or traffic violation. It is under the court's discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these courses. You will have to finish the course in a specified time and if it is NOT completed successfully you will not get any benefits. If under 20 years old, you must complete six hours training behind the wheel and online courses are permitted for the classroom portion.

[edit] FEES

Depending on the location, the classroom courses and online courses can cost up to $75.00. Please contact individual providers for more details on individual pricing.
