[edit] TRAFFIC SCHOOLS
In the state of Connecticut, traffic schools are often referred to as âOperator Retraining Programs'. There are two reasons why people enroll in the Operator Retraining Programs:
- After a traffic violation, the court will orders the driver to take a course at a traffic/driving school to improve their safe-driving skills.
- To receive insurance discounts for teens and those aged more than 60.
This program is designed to help you to learn defensive driving techniques that will make you a safer driver. The Operator Retraining Programs are conducted at various locations and few online courses are offered in Connecticut. If the program has been court-ordered, please ensure that the court will accept a certificate of completion from an online course or regular course, before enrolling in any Operator Retraining Program.
[edit] BENEFITS
Any driver can enroll in an Operator Retraining Program at any time to receive the following benefits:
- Insurance Benefits - some insurance companies may offer premium discounts even for those aged under-60 that have completed the accident prevention course though it is not required by the law. Please check with your insurance representative to see if you qualify for this discount.
[edit] WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?
Either the court or the DMV (when notified by the courts) may order you, if you are over 24 years old, to successfully complete an operator retraining program when you have been convicted three times of a moving or suspension violation. If you are under 24 years old, you may be ordered to undergo the program when you have been convicted two times for suspension or moving violations. It is under the court's discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these courses. You will have to complete the program minimum two weeks before effective suspension date. If you have not completed successfully in the stated time you will have to pay $125 restoration fee.
[edit] FEES
Depending on the location, the operator retraining program cost around $60. Please contact individual schools for more details on individual pricing.

Some of the best ways to find savings on Connecticut auto insurance (http://www.connecticutautoinsurance.com) is by simply taking a class. Usually the fee for enrolling will be outweighed by the insurance savings.
