Owning a car nowadays is a necessity above all, a means of transportation that is supposed to take us from one place to another. That’s why when most people try to decide what type of car they should buy, they look for something that is practical, comfortable and affordable. However, there are people who think of cars as something more meaningful than that. They have a bigger appreciation for cars and they like owning cars that have a higher value because of some special feature that other cars don’t have, or because they were featured in some legendary movie or for whatever other special reason that may not be related to the car’s performances at all.

These kind of cars usually end up as part of someone’s collection and often sit in a garage or some exhibition hall and get out on the road only on special occasions. There are several car models that are a common item in almost every collector’s garage, such as certain types of Porsche, Ford, Buick, Mustang, Chevrolet, the legendary Italian sports cars Ferrari and Lamborghini and many more.

On this occasion I’ve chosen to talk about three of the most sought after collector cars – the Porsche Carrera GT, the 1969 Ford Talladega and the Ferrari F40.

The Porsche Carrera GT is a superfast sports car that has the performances of a race car, but is meant to be on the road. It has a powerful 5.7-liter V10 engine that generates 605 hp, and goes from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. It can reach top speeds of 205 mph. It costs $440,000 and only a limited edition of 1,500 units were put on sale. This supercar is always somewhere at the top of every respectable list of top sports cars, and that, along with its amazing performances and the fact that there are so few of them throughout the world makes it a desirable item for every car collector.

Next on the list is an American classic – the 1969 Ford Talladega. This muscle car is legendary for many reasons. For one, it is a race car that has won many races of the NASCAR series, as well as a couple of wins at the 24 Le Mans race. These cars are very rare today. Some 750 of them were built, and they can be sold for as much as a couple of million dollars at auctions today. So the Talladega’s significance lies in the sentimental value it has due to its great racing history.

The Ferrari F40 is another collectible sports car. It was one of the fastest cars in the world at the time it was released, which was during the late 1990s. It was fitted with a turbocharged V8 engine producing 470 horsepowers, hitting maximum speeds of 201 mph, while going from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds. The name was a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Ferrari, and at $400,000, it was one of the priciest cars in the 90s. It’s vintage Ferrari – elegant, stylish and superfast. Its legendary status is enhanced by the fact it was the last car to be constructed under the helm of Enzo Ferrari, and today it can be sold for as much as $1,500,000.

So, although there are many more collector cars that are worth mentioning, I tried to give you a preview of what types of cars are among the collectors’ favorites and if you ever think about starting a car collection, you might want to take the Porsche Carrera GT, the 1969 Ford Talladega and the Ferrari F40 into consideration.
